Empress Of brings the feels to the dance floor with ‘Save Me’

Every Monday, “Add of the Week” unveils all the new songs going into the 88Nine on-air playlist, with one hand-picked selection put in the spotlight by a member of our music team.

When the team here at 88Nine and HYFIN gather to talk about songs we could potentially add to our music rotation, we all collectively lean in and listen. Last Thursday, we leaned ALL the way in and stumbled onto a list of songs that give our listeners a true peek into how eclectic and different of a station we are.

From folk to dance, we have it all this week, and one of the pieces in that puzzle is Empress Of. Honduran-American singer/songwriter/producer Lorely Rodriguez has been blazing a trail of emotional messaging and big pop-dance vibes since her Freshman album Me, but you may not know that if you haven’t looked in the right place.

Welcome to the right place.

This amazing talent’s recent project, Save Me, follows a formula that just works for her true fans. In the title track of the EP, you’ll find some infectious disco stabs, inspiring baselines, affected percussions that sit nicely in the pocket and subliminal lyrics that warrant a few repeats.

It all adds up to something you’ll hear on 88Nine (and I’ll be spinning another track of hers, “Dance for You,” during In the Mix on Saturday evenings). You can listen to “Save Me” below and on 88Nine by tuning your FM dial in Milwaukee or streaming worldwide on our website and mobile app.

This week’s other adds

  • “Grapevine,” Weyes Blood
  • “Black Paladin’s Theme (free take),” R.A.P. Ferreira
  • “American Airlines,” The Golden Dregs
  • “Sunset,” Caroline Polacheck
  • “PIRATE RADIO*” and “THREE HEADS*,” Jean Dawson
