Time-traveling Geese take us back decades on ‘Cowboy Nudes’

Five people in vintage 1970s clothing look back at a car that seems to be chasing them down a street at night.

Every Monday, “Add of the Week” unveils all the new songs going into the 88Nine on-air playlist, with one hand-picked selection put in the spotlight by a member of our music team.

On the song “Cowboy Nudes,” Geese vocalist Cameron Winter has such a classic rock swagger to his voice that you almost shake your head to see if you’re still in the present. Hearing him croon beside his equally vintage-sounding band, you’d swear you teleported to the ’70s if you didn’t know better.

The Brooklyn outfit gets particularly Rolling Stones-y, and soul really sizzles in the veins of this scruffy little rocker. It’s an interesting place to see them roll to after establishing an artsy dance-punk sound. But maybe “Cowboy Nudes” is simply the sound of a modern rock band shaking off the dust from past creations and just recalibrating.

You can listen to “Cowboy Nudes” below and on 88Nine by tuning your FM dial in Milwaukee, or streaming worldwide on our website and mobile app.
