Nashville-based singer and songwriter Adia Victoria releases her second full-length studio album "Silences" just days before her appearance at 88Nine. Known for her gothic blues style, she gave listeners a firsthand and intimate look into who she really is.With her full band, Adia kicked off her set with "Different Kind of Love," filled with smooth horns, her smooth voice and a sharp bass line.
Next, following the lead of moody piano keys playing, she continued with "Dope Queen Blues."
In the interview, Adia told the story of what the "philosophy" of the blues mean to her and how discovering the genre at 21 years old in Atlanta helped her trace her lineage, communicate her black experience and feel "seen."
With her powerful statements echoing in our heads, she closed the session by playing "Heathen," then introducing her band—Peter Eddins on keys, Jason Harris on bass, Knapps on drums, Chazen and Willé on horns and Mason Hickman, Aida's creative partner, on guitar.
