Tap'd In's Wisconsin State Fair music recommendations

Each Thursday morning on Radio Milwaukee we -- the Journal Sentinel's Piet Levy and 88Nine's Jordan Lee -- talk about the music coming into and the music coming out of Milwaukee on  Tap'd In

Wisconsin State Fair starts today. Listeners may remember that last year we shamed the fair for not booking enough Wisconsin music. Did they up their game this year? Not really. But there are still several acts playing the fair that are very worth your while. Stream this week's episode to hear us chat about them.

One of the big national acts playing the fair this year is Fitz and the Tantrums, the dance-rock band behind the stadium staple " HandClap." They play Friday, Aug. 2.

Then, on Aug. 10, soul legends The Isley Brothers and The Commodores share a big bill. The Isley Brothers just headlined the Pitchfork Music Festival, and it's not often you see a Pitchfork headliner play the Wisconsin State Fair.

On the local tip, there are some big absences on this year's Wisconsin State Fair lineup. Where are Horseshoes and Hand Grenades? Where are Dead Horses? Why is there nothing from Eau Claire?

But there are two big local shows we recommend: Extra Crispy Brass Band is playing tonight, and they put on an exceptional show. And "The Voice" contestant Chris Kroeze will play on Aug. 5, and he should deliver a great performance as well.
