Riverwest FemFest is hosting a "Portraits of Femme" series all month as part of Women's History Month and to commemorate International Women's Day. It kicks off on Monday, March 8 with a really cool event that will be on Radio Milwaukee's Facebook page.
Led by musician B~Free, #PortraitsOfFemme: Women in Music (Covers Tribute) will feature 10 women and femme-identifying artists presenting a wide array of cover performances and stories on songs by women musicians who’ve inspired them.
It'll be broadcast on Facebook starting at 6 p.m., and will feature Amanda Huff, Caley Conway, Donna Re'nee, Holly Haebig Wake, Johanna Rose and Katie Lyne, Kendraplex, Kyndal J., Nikki Morgan and Trinity Grace.
Other events include a March 11 virtual write-in session from Heard Space, a March 25 panel discussion from Ms. Lotus Fankh on the impact and importance of women in music, and a March 26 session of Grace Weber’s Music Lab on Facebook Live featuring Tiffany Miranda, the founder of Girls Make Beats.
That's an ambitious slate, but that shouldn't be surprising coming from an organization like FemFest. We talk about the roots of this Milwaukee institution and how it has grown over the years on this week's episode, which you can stream below.
