Need an evening without the kids? Kids Night Out is for young people grades 1-6 and provides an opportunity for parents to enjoy themselves while the kids have an awesome time at the Wisconsin Humane Society. What better way to end the week than making friends with other animal lovers and meeting animal guests? This month’s theme: Seeing Shadows.
The Finale: Ancient Civilizations
Milwaukee Public Museum

During this closeout celebration, stop by the interactive stations as museum staff share rare insight into the two Egyptian mummies on display and explore the foodways that sustained people long ago. Guests will learn about Padi-Heru and Djed-Hor, the two people mummified in MPM’s Crossroads of Civilization exhibit; discover the fundamental foods that fueled these ancient people; and enjoy hands-on activities and story times.

It’s a night of exploration featuring stops at the planetarium, the candlelit Discovery Trail, stargazing through telescopes (cloud cover permitting) and a snowshoe stomp (snow cover and trails permitting). Guests can also enjoy a presentation from Michelle Thaller, former Assistant Director for Science Communication at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, and then end the night by the fire with hot beverages, snacks and storytelling.

Schlitz Audubon Nature Center | Bayside

Share the love with cold-blooded critters as Environmental Educator Laine Cotteleer introduces you to some of the center’s reptile and amphibian animal ambassadors. At this indoor program, you’ll learn what makes them unique and lovable, and then get the chance to create Valentine cards for the people you care about or the animals that call the center home. This program is designed for all ages, children and adults alike. Children must be accompanied by an adult; each child and adult require a ticket.
Maple Tapping Workshop
Wehr Nature Center | Franklin

Nothing beats homemade maple syrup on pancakes! You’ll go through the process from start to finish at this hands-on workshop that includes chances to practice drilling a tree and see how sap is boiled down. You’ll even get to enjoy some sweet treats! The program is designed for families with children ages 7 and older, and online registration is required at least two days in advance.
