Intern at Radio Milwaukee
Radio Milwaukee’s internship program offers hands-on experience in the dynamic world of non-commercial radio. Under this internship, you'll contribute to Radio Milwaukee as a whole, as well as our two primary stations: HYFIN and 88Nine.
We're seeking individuals excited about the future of public media, and community engagement within and beyond Milwaukee. Interns will receive assignments that allow them to gain practical skills through active participation in various departments, including programming, promotion, production, digital content, operations and marketing.
Timeline
- Summer program: First week of June through the last week of August
- Interns must be available at least 10 hours per week, Monday through Friday, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. (with expectations as needed). Some weekend availability may be required.
Key responsibilities
1. Programming & production
- Assist in curating and updating our music libraries
- Support the production team with AV editing needs
- Research and prepare content for on-air segments and interviews
2. Marketing, promotion & digital content
- Help develop social media content and promotional campaigns
- Assist in writing and distributing press releases and newsletters
- Represent the station at community outreach events
3. Events & community engagement
- Support planning and execution of station-sponsored events
- Assist in event logistics, including setup and audience engagement
- Gather listener feedback and promotional materials
- Assist in membership engagement
4. Engineering & operations
- Gain insight into studio operations and broadcasting technology
- Assist with equipment setup, troubleshooting and maintenance
- Support daily station operations as needed
Requirements
- Must be a current student seeking hands-on radio/media experience
- Strong communication skills, and enthusiasm for media and community engagement
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Basic familiarity with audio and video editing software strongly preferred
- Familiarity with social media
- Interest in indie and urban alternative music

This is an unpaid internship for educational training, with college credit potentially applicable for students enrolled in higher education. If you're selected as a candidate for the program, you will receive notification via email. Interviews will be offered virtually or in person. Due to the large volume of applications, we're unable to notify applicants who aren't selected.
