Internship (Summer 2026)

Radio Milwaukee’s internship program offers hands-on experience in the dynamic world of non-commercial radio. Under this internship, you'll contribute to Radio Milwaukee as a whole, as well as our two primary stations: HYFIN and 88Nine.

We're seeking individuals excited about the future of public media, nonprofit development, and community engagement within and beyond Milwaukee. Interns will receive assignments that allow them to gain practical skills through active participation in various departments, including programming, underwriting, development, promotions, production, content, operations and marketing.

Timeline

  • Summer program: End of May to the last week of August
  • Interns must be available at least 10 hours per week, Monday through Friday, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., specific time expectations as needed. Some weekend availability may be required.

Key responsibilities

All interns will work toward an end-of-summer showcase for fellow students and community members. This event is what you make it but will center our pillars of music, education and community engagement. In addition, interns will be assigned individual and ongoing projects across multiple areas, including:

1. Programming & production

  • Assist in curating and updating our music libraries
  • Support the production team with AV editing needs
  • Research and prepare content for on-air segments and on-site interviews

2. Marketing, promotion & digital content

  • Help develop social media content and promotional material
  • Assist in writing and distributing press releases and newsletters
  • Represent the station at community outreach events and activations

3. Events & community engagement

  • Support planning and execution of station-sponsored events
  • Assist in event logistics, including setup and audience engagement
  • Gather listener feedback and promotional materials
  • Assist in membership engagement

4. Engineering & operations

  • Gain insight into studio operations and broadcasting technology
  • Assist with equipment setup, troubleshooting and maintenance
  • Support daily station operations as needed

Requirements

  • Must be a current college student seeking hands-on radio/media experience
  • Strong communication skills, and enthusiasm for media and community engagement
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Basic familiarity with audio and video editing software strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with social media
  • Dedication to supporting a better, more inclusive and engaged Milwaukee.
  • Passion for indie music and urban alternative music

To apply

Please submit a resume and cover letter explaining what you hope to get out of a potential internship to both Carolann Grzybowski AND Kenny Perez. Your application must include what you would like to institute or include at the summer’s end intern event. In addition, samples of graphic, video or audio work is appreciated but not required

This is an unpaid internship for educational training, with college credit potentially applicable for students enrolled in higher education. If you're selected as a candidate for the program, you will receive notification via email. Interviews will be offered virtually or in person. Due to the large volume of applications, we're unable to notify applicants who aren't selected.
