Cali-based indie-grunge duo Maia Sinaiko and Susanna Thomson (aka Sour Widows) are back with new music, a little more than two years after the release of full-length debut Revival of a Friend.
Produced by Jay Som, new album Sigil is led by “Blood in the Grass,” a single dedicated to Babehoven frontperson Maya Bon. Thomson wrote the song to honor their nurturing relationship, with lyrics emphasizing themes of fate, creating family, and finding refuge in one another during times of spiritual and physical pain.
“This song is set in the natural world because all living things are the same when they are born,” Thomson shared. “In nature, the state of vulnerability is a fact that is fundamental to life and can’t be obscured.”
Sigil will come into full view with its release Oct. 23, and Sour Widows will be in Milwaukee soon after with Squirrel Flower for their Nov. 19 date at Cactus Club.
