Every week, the State of Sound podcast welcomes an artist from our monthly concert series into the studio to go deep on one of their songs. For more info on the live show, including how to get tickets, visit the event page.

Milwaukee-raised artist ANDII draws from the traditions of American jazz and folk vocalists of yore, spinning it with a modern appeal while creating a feeling of warm familiarity among her audience. With an air of vulnerability and humility throughout her lyricism, she offers a unique perspective into the world of relationships — relationships with others, with Mother Earth and with ourselves.

ANDII sat down with me to discuss the inspiration behind her tender song “About a Girl,” in which she chronicles what it means to be vulnerable and strong all at the same time. To hear the conversation and part of her set from August’s State of Sound concert showcase, use the player at the top of the page or track us down wherever you listen to podcasts.

We’re only a few days away from our next big show featuring Next Paperback Hero, Video Sex Priest, Pulpa de Guayaba and Diamond Life. Doors open at 7 p.m. this Saturday, Sept. 7, with music getting underway at 8 p.m.
