In the Mix: A Bastille-timed tribute to electronic legends Daft Punk

Sony Music Entertainment

Every Saturday night, In the Mix sets the vibe as DJ Kenny Perez mixes up the hottest sounds from the electronic dance music scene, bringing to the forefront some of Milwaukee's most talented DJs and producers.

For this episode, we cooked up a little something to celebrate Milwaukee's Bastille Days: a special tribute to France's most influential “robots,” Daft Punk.

As the city spent the weekend embracing French culture, food, music and history, it felt like the perfect opportunity to dedicate an entire hour to the legendary duo whose innovative sound helped redefine electronic music around the world.

The show traveled through three of my favorite Daft Punk albums — Homework, Discovery and Human After All — showcasing how Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo pushed the boundaries of house music from the late 1990s through the 2000s. From the gritty, underground sounds of Homework to the infectious melodies of Discovery and the raw, minimalist energy of Human After All, the hour highlighted the evolution of a duo that never stopped experimenting.

Although Daft Punk retired in 2021, the music remains as influential today as ever. Their pioneering approach to French house, electronic and live performance continues to inspire artists, producers and DJs across the globe.
