Every Saturday night, In the Mix sets the vibe as DJ Kenny Perez mixes up the hottest sounds from the electronic dance music scene, bringing to the forefront some of Milwaukee's most talented DJs and producers.
Earlier this year, I got the chance to catch Arlo Parks live in Philadelphia, and she did not disappoint. Her show was filled with the lush vocals and grooves we’ve come to expect from this brilliant artist. So having her drop an exclusive curated set for In the Mix felt like a pretty special full-circle moment.
Parks explored a whole new sonic world on her latest album, Ambiguous Desire, leaning deeper into electronic music, club culture and the sounds of the dance floor. She’ll further expand that electronic palette with the deluxe version of the record that arrives Oct. 9, featuring new tracks and reworks.
The energy of the project definitely carried over into her In the Mix set. Parks delivered an eclectic hour of electronic sounds that proved to be adventurous, unexpected and really cool. It was a side of her musical taste that fit perfectly with the spirit of the show.
We also got into fresh new music from Empress Of, Jorja Smith and more — the kind of variety you’ll get when you lock in with us at 9 p.m. every Saturday on 88Nine. And if you’re reading this in time, make sure you’re tuned in Oct. 3, when we have the legendary Lee Burridge dropping the vibes.
