Ladies First: Ambré

Courtesy of the artist

Their talent is undeniable. Their contribution to the culture is indispensable. They're the Black women in our playlists, on our screens and in our feeds. On Ladies First, Element Everest-Blanks talks with one of these remarkable women about their lives, their music and how they made their moment happen. Because it's not about who's next. It's about who's now.

Ambré’s path to becoming a Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter and producer started with a quiet upbringing in New Orleans. Rooted in church choirs, marching bands and a culture where music is everywhere, the environment helped create an artist who has grown into one of the industry's most authentic voices.

In our conversation, Ambré reflects on how her hometown shaped her signature swag and realness, how she navigates the music industry without being put in a box and the valuable lessons learned from trusting her own creative instincts over outside pressure. She also discusses her artistic collaborations, her firm stance against A.I. in the creative process and the deep artistry behind Peyote, the new album that highlights her musical range and obsessive attention to detail.
