Every Monday, 88Nine music director Erin Wolf shares a sonic gem she found using her nearly 20 years of new-music exploration experience. You can hear all her discoveries at 2 p.m. every Sunday on What’s All This: Adventures in New Music

Soulful U.K. artist Sampha always soothes with his beautiful voice, yet still activates the listener to think and reflect inward. On “Satellite Business 2.0” — the track we’re featuring from our latest episode of What’s All This — he’s got Little Simz in tow to kick things up a notch.

Sampha lets his trademark emotionally full voice bloom into a virtual state, dosed with a touch of reality and groundedness by way of a simple tempo change and an open-ended appeal:

Looking in the mirror, I can see a limit
I can see a body, I can feel a difference
Maybe there's no ends
Maybe just infinity
Maybe no beginnings
Maybe just, maybe just you

Born and reimagined from an interlude found on 2023 album Lahai, “Satellite Business 2.0” feels like something bound for even more version numbers. 3.0? 4.0? The sky’s the limit for this beautifully smart, percussively inspiring collab. I hope it won’t be their last.

Young Records plans to release the song soon on a limited 12-inch vinyl, but you can find it right down below. We also have a playlist you can check out on Spotify as you wait for more fresh tunes on What’s All This: Adventures in New Music at 2 p.m. every Sunday on 88Nine.
