Every Monday, 88Nine music director Erin Wolf shares a sonic gem she found using her nearly 20 years of new-music exploration experience. You can hear all her discoveries at 2 p.m. every Sunday on What’s All This: Adventures in New Music.
Merve Erdem and K. Martin are Kit Sebastian — a duo who effortlessly incorporate instruments like the oud, Turkish clarinet, santour, zither and harpsichord into their playful music. Influenced by both Turkish and French culture while being rooted in London, the band is capable of whisking listeners away to realms both known and unknown.
The pair call themselves “lo-fi-hi-fi” on account of their love for analogue instrumentation and using high-end tube equipment to record onto eight-track cassette tape, resulting in a warm, earthy and tangible sound. The retro-loving modern band recently released their latest single, “Bul Bul Bul,” to give us a taste of their soon-to-be-released New Internationale coming out Sept. 27 on Brainfeeder Records.
It’s not long to wait, but for now we can dig into the new single below. And don’t forget: I’ll have a batch of fresh tracks ready for you on 88Nine at 2 p.m. every Sunday on What’s All This: Adventures in New Music.
