Best new music: Vulfmon & Evangeline pack their talent into another tune

Jeremy Lindenfeld

Every Monday, 88Nine music director Erin Wolf shares a sonic gem she found using her nearly 20 years of new-music exploration experience. You can hear all her discoveries at 2 p.m. every Sunday on What’s All This: Adventures in New Music

The funky pop songwriting pair of Vulfmon (aka producer and musician Jack Stratton of Vulfpeck) and singer Evangeline are back at it with their collaborative jam, “It Might Have to Be You.” Joining forces with Mocky on bass and Joey Dosik on piano, the duo continue the seamless musical magic they started on Vulfmon’s latest album, Dot.

I’m truly hoping this continued team-up spells out a full-on full-length. Both artists are clearly capable of a solid solo song. When together? The situation only becomes 2.0. Or maybe Evangeline should just join Vulfpeck, already? People have already dubbed Evangeline “Vulfwomon,” and it’s very warranted.
