Best new music: The Lemons Twigs share love and a ‘Broken Heart’

Every week, 88Nine music director Erin Wolf shares a sonic gem she found using her nearly 20 years of new-music exploration experience. You can hear all her discoveries live on 88Nine at 10 p.m. every Monday on What’s All This: Adventures in New Music.

The NYC-based, brother-led, sweetly vintage-sounding pop-rock project The Lemon Twigs have returned with a pair of new singles: “Friday (I’m Gonna Love You)” and its B-side, “I’ve Got a Broken Heart.” The tracks follow the full-length album that Brian and Michael D'Addario produced for their veteran songwriter dad Ronnie D’Addario, who for years played with Irish musician Tommy Makem.

The stomping earworm melody and tightly wound vocal harmonies of “I’ve Got a Broken Heart” will transport you right back to the mod ’60s, as well as the heyday of the power pop-dappled ’70s, for a little blast of summery swagger that feels great to bask in as winter deepens. Find both songs streaming everywhere via Captured Tracks and “I’ve Got a Broken Heart” from The Lemon Twigs in the latest episode of What’s All This, which you can enjoy using the player at the top of the page.
