Every week, 88Nine music director Erin Wolf shares a sonic gem she found using her nearly 20 years of new-music exploration experience. You can hear all her discoveries live on 88Nine at 10 p.m. every Monday on What’s All This: Adventures in New Music.
Madeline BB is the leader of L.A.-based glammy indie-pop band Slippers, whose lead single from upcoming album Slippers 08 is as delightful as a Ring Pop. “Wants for Everyone” glimmers with colorful energy, and is as sweet and simple as a carefree moment from childhood, whatever flavor yours was.
The band uses lo-fi to channel a vintage sound made magnetic by Madeline’s airy vocals and crispy drums, calling to mind other artists from the K Records label they share. I expect those sonics to be all over the full album when it hits June 5, with cover art and design done by fellow L.A. indie rocker (and graphic designer) Mike Krol.
Hear “Wants For Everyone” on the latest episode of What’s All This, which you can check out in full using the player at the top of the page.
