'Navalny' and 'The Warrior Princess' win the Allan H. (Bud) and Suzanne L. Selig Audience Award at the Milwaukee Film Festival

At the beginning of each screening at the Milwaukee Film Festival audience members were handed a small paper ballot and asked to vote for the Allan H. (Bud) and Suzanne L. Selig Audience Award. Honestly, it's so much fun. It's one of those things that makes the festival really special. As an audience member, YOU are the judge. It's power. And recognition of your great taste.

Well, we are happy to announce, the winners of this year's Allan H. (Bud) and Suzanne L. Selig Audience Award. For Best Feature the award went to " Navalny." (dir. Daniel Roher), an urgent and real-time political thriller about Russian opposition leader, Alexei Navalny; the film showed as Milwaukee Film's Centerpiece screening.

Best Short went to " The Warrior Princess." directed by Vianca Fuster, former 88Nine Community Stories producer and Milwaukee native. It's Fuster's debut short documentary about Milwaukee's own Violet "The Warrior Princess" Lopez, a five-time amateur national boxing champion who believes that boxing shouldn't just be a "boy's sport."

Milwaukee Film also announced that the 2023 Milwaukee Film Festival will take place from April 20 - May 4. 2023.
