Disney+ movie 'Rise,' based on Antetokounmpo family, premieres Friday

The unlikely journey of the Antetokounmpo brothers from poverty to basketball stardom always seemed like a story straight out of Hollywood. This Friday on Disney+, it will be.

"Rise" documents the family's struggle to survive after emigrating from Nigeria to Greece, as well as the four brothers finding salvation in the game of basketball.

Brothers Giannis and Thanasis, of course, won the 2021 NBA championship with the Milwaukee Bucks, Kostas won a ring the year prior with the Los Angeles Lakers, and youngest brother Alex played four years at Dominican High School in Whitefish Bay before turning pro.

Real-life brothers Uche and Ral Agada take on the starring roles of Giannis and Thanasis, respectively.

The Bucks will host a closed screening of the film for local community groups at the Marcus Movie Tavern in Brookfield, with team president Peter Feigin in attendance.

"Rise" is the second film to debut this month featuring members of the Milwaukee Bucks; the Netflix sports drama "Hustle" includes a cameo by Khris Middleton.
