Giannis Antetokounmpo now has his own honorary bus route in Milwaukee

The Milwaukee County Transit System (MCTS) gave Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo an early birthday present. Starting yesterday, the day before Giannis's 27th birthday, MCTS bestowed a new honorary title on Route 34 (Hopkins-Congress): It's now the Giannis Line.

"Giannis has been an upstanding figure in the Milwaukee community ever since he arrived back in 2013, including his participation in the social justice movement of 2020," MCTS wrote in a statement. "

That’s why MCTS felt it was the right time to do something unique and memorable — name a bus route in his honor."

Giannis, of course, already shares a number with Route 34. As regular riders know, the route operates every 25-30 minutes all day, every day, connecting to dozens of other lines across the county.

"

The  Giannis Line operates every 25-30 minutes all day, every day, making connections to dozens of MCTS routes across the county," MCTS writes. "Recently included as a new route in its system redesign project, MCTS NEXT, this route features new cross-county routing with expanded service connecting Congress Street and Hopkins Street with N. 6th Street and Downtown Milwaukee. In addition, this route provides new travel and connection opportunities for residents, workers, and students and aligns with Milwaukee County’s vision to advance Racial Equity throughout the county."
