It's among Milwaukee oldest churches, and today plans are in development to restore it to it's original splendor.
Evangelische Dreieinigkeits Kirche, originally a German Lutheran church, opened its doors in 1892 on the corner of 4th and Meinecke. Today it is home to King Solomon Missionary Baptist Church, but many of the building's original details remain.
OnMilwaukee.com Managing Editor Bobby Tanzilo explored it last spring in his column.
"The gorgeous Gothic revival tower remains as do many details on the facade and other elevations," he writes. "In the narthex and sanctuary, beautiful stained glass windows bearing German inscriptions survive."
And today, Tanzilo says officials at King Solomon Church are working with a German-American group to restore the church's aging features. The effort --"Rescue and Restore" -- is currently forming a steering committee and strengthening community partnerships. Eventually it will seek funding for the improvements as a separate nonprofit organization.
