Now that the Oriental Theater has reopened after weeks of renovation, OnMilwaukee's Bobby Tanzilo and I are talking about the city's only continuously operating "movie palace" this week on Urban Spelunking.
What's new? What's the same? Can I finally go to the bathroom downstairs?
Tanzilo answers all these questions in a special edition of his weekly column, focused entirely on Milwaukee's favorite movie theater.
He uncovered original plans from the theater's construction and he found a bunch of little quirks in the architecture -- including the visage of George Harrison allegedly imprinted in the carpet fabric.
Was it intentional? Was it divine? Can we ever really know?
In the podcast above, we also talk about the technical upgrades at The Oriental, now under the long-term operation of Milwaukee Film and the future of the Rocky Horror Picture Show.
