Why you should see 'Black Nativity' this weekend

It has quickly become a Milwaukee holiday tradition -- Black Nativity at the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts.

And this year, it's bigger than ever.

The all-black, all-Milwaukee cast reimagines the traditional Christmas nativity story and customizes it for a Milwaukee audience.

Set in present day Milwaukee, the show "blends together gospel music, trap beats and old negro spirituals," says Director Malkia Stampley.

Stampley has been at the helm for three of the four years it has played in Milwaukee, and it's never the same two years in a row.

"It just gets stronger and stronger every year," Stampley said. "I keep finding little ways to tweak it and perfect it. And add little new things I think Milwaukee will love."

Only four performances remain!
