New hotel opens inside historic Milwaukee office tower

It's one of Milwaukee's newest hotels, but the 1929 building it occupies is steeped in Milwaukee history.

This week on Urban Spelunking we visit the Drury Plaza Hotel in Downtown Milwaukee, a former office tower designed by Eschweiler and Eschweiler architects.

And as it turns out, the historic Eschweiler building replaced another historic building back in the 1920s on the same site.

The hotel is open now and boasts 227 rooms spread over 14 floors. Modern amenities include a fitness center, an indoor pool (semi-rare for a downtown Milwaukee hotel), plenty of meeting space and a ballroom, according to OnMilwaukee's Bobby Tanzilo.

Learn about the hotel's previous life on this week's episode, and visit OnMilwaukee for more pictures and info.
