After two years of fundraising and three months of installation, the Hoan Bridge is ready to be lit. You may have noticed the bridge lit up periodically over the last few weeks during its testing phase, but the Light the Hoan project will make its first official lighting tomorrow night, Thursday, Oct. 22, and Radio Milwaukee is going to help soundtrack it.
We've partnered with Light the Hoan for a music-driven light show that will demonstrate the wide array of colors and patterns the bridge's thousands of LED lights are capable of. We'll broadcast our mix over the air starting at 6:40 p.m., and WTMJ-4 will broadcast the light show. A livestream of the lighting will also be available on Light the Hoan's Facebook page. If you miss it, don't worry. You'll have plenty of chances to see the Hoan lit, since the lights will be on every night after Thursday.
$3.5 million in private funds were raised to add the lights to the west side of Milwaukee's iconic bridge. The Light the Hoan project is continuing to raise a final $1.1 million to light the bridge's east side as well.
The lights and animations can be synced to live music or big events at Miller Park and Fiserv Forum. If you missed it, check out our Community Story about Code The Hoan, a program that tapped local tech talent on the autism spectrum to choreograph the light bulbs.
