New restaurant concept coming soon to former Trocadero space

On this week's Urban Spelunking, we're checking another Milwaukee tied house tavern off the list!

This week we're visiting the former Trocadero, 1758 N. Water St., on Milwaukee's East Side, which was also former Schlitz tied house built in 1890.

If you've been in the building as Trocadero or, more recently as Di Moda Pizza, you surely remember the unusual layout. As a corner spot on a tiny triangular lot, the bar and restaurant has a dramatic and angular footprint where every square foot is put to work.

Above the main restaurant is another bar, inside what was originally a residential rental space. Outside, the restaurant's iconic patio remains, and the kitchen is still well-equipped and ready for the next tenant.

On this week's episode, we talk more about the building's next chapter as Tauro Cocina, an Italian-Mexican fusion restaurant, opening this spring, and we reflect back on 132 years of history as a tied house, the "Pleasant House" bar and more.

Listen below, and v isit OnMilwaukee for the complete story.
