A guide to summer activities at Milwaukee's new Deer District

Although the Bucks' impressive season came to an end earlier this month, there are still plenty of other reasons to visit the new Deer District outside the Fiserv Forum this summer. Here is a guide to the attractions at Deer District and the many events it has planned for the coming months.

The goal of Deer District is to be a "365-day destination," according to its mission statement. And while for many the main attraction may be basketball, there is much more to enjoy about Milwaukee's newest neighborhood than just sports.

Deer District is currently home to five drinking and dining destinations. Drink Wisconsinbly, The Mecca Sports Bar & Grill, The Beer Garden, Punch Bowl Social and Good City Brewing are all located within walking distance of each other. And in addition to these bars and restaurants, Deer District also has a fountain that runs seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

This summer, Deer District will host a wide variety of events ranging from movie nights to fitness classes and much more.

Music in the Beer Garden

The Beer Garden located in Deer District will host a free summer concert series that will take place every Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. throughout the course of the summer. The first concert took place on May 29 and the final one will be held on Aug. 28. The summer lineup features 14 local acts including Barbara Stephen, Ian Ash and several others. Click here for the full lineup and schedule.

Yoga in the Plaza

On select Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the summer, Deer District will host Yoga in the Plaza. The classes are open to people of all experience levels and the instructor will offer non-intimidating options for newer students as well as providing variations for more experienced yoga students. Participants must bring their own yoga mat/towel and water bottle. The full schedule of dates can be found here.

Barre District in Deer District

For a unique workout, this Barre class will take place on select Monday nights now through September and will blend elements of ballet, yoga and pilates for a hybrid workout. No experience is necessary for those who want to participate and a full schedule can be found here.

Fawn Fest

For kids looking to get the most out of Deer District this summer, Fawn Fest is a series of free weekly activities geared toward children. Fawn Fest will feature kid-friendly food and beverages, a DJ and activities such as giant slides, games and inflatables. These weekly activities will take place on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. outside Fiserv Forum.

Movies Under the Moonlight

On select Tuesdays this summer, Deer district will host movie nights on the plaza outside Fiserv Forum. The movies will run roughly from 7:30 p.m. until 10 p.m. Screenings include "Frozen," "Top Gun," "Field of Dreams" and several others. The full list can be found on the events page of the Deer District website.

Make Music Day

Make Music Day will take place on the longest day of the year: June 21. Now in its third year, this one day festival will feature concerts on streets, sidewalks and parks throughout Deer District as well as other parts of Milwaukee. Performers include a Wisconsin saxophone ensemble, an 11-member a cappella group and a choir of students ranging from ages 3 to 14.

Bloody Mary Festival

This two-day festival will seek to bring many different Bloody Mary recipes to one place. Some are traditional, some are elaborate, but regardless, only one Bloody Mary recipe can take home the title of "The Best Bloody Mary" in Milwaukee. The festival will run June 22-23 from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

In addition to these events throughout the summer, Deer District will also host viewing parties for popular shows like "The Bachelorette" as well as Women's World Cup soccer games. These viewings will take place in The Beer Garden as well as inside the Mecca Sports Bar & Grill.
