New stadium, concert venue planned near Marquette Interchange

A new sports and entertainment district is in the works for a site formerly owned by Marquette University, the school announced Friday.

Plans for the district include an 8,000-seat outdoor stadium, a 3,500-seat indoor concert venue, a 140-room hotel, 99 multi-family residential housing units, retail and restaurants.

Marquette sold the 11 acres of land near the Marquette Interchange to Kenosha-based Bear Development, who is teaming up with Grafton-based Kacmarcik Enterprises on the proposal. The parcel is bordered by N. 6th St. to the east, Michigan St. to the north, and the 794/I-43 interchange to the east and south.

According to a press release, the concert venue will be "operated by one of the world’s premier concert promoters" and the Pabst Theater Group in partnership with Kacmarcik Enterprises. The facility plans to host will host national touring acts up to 100 nights a year and more than 300 events a year in total.

The stadium will be home to an unnamed soccer club, plus host Marquette's Division I soccer and lacrosse teams. Kacmarcik Enterprises owns Forward Madison, a third-tier soccer club playing in USL League One.

The project is scheduled to break ground this year and open in Spring 2024.
