I got ants in my pants, and I don't believe the hype!

It's time for another 7 o clock sample! Since we are celebrating the EVOLUTION OF HIP HOP all this month here at 88NINE, I figured I'd take this month to explore hip hop's favorite sample source; The Godfather of Soul, The Hardest Working Man in Showbizness, Soul Brotha #1...JAMES BROWN!

SEVEN O CLOCK SAMPLE presents... The James Brown Samples! There are SO many examples of the use of James Brown in Hip Hop, that I could maybe even do this for an entire year! From day one, Hip Hop culture has had a deep love affair with James. His music can be directly linked to Hip Hop dance, culture and music even before the first rap records were recorded. Today I decided to take a look at how the fellas in Public Enemy used some of the godfather's music. PE had no shortage of James Brown samples, so I randomly plucked this one out... DON'T BELIVE THE HYPE From the album I t Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back This track includes samples from Melvin Bliss, Rufus Thomas and two James Brown samples... The first is Escapism and the second is this cut... I Got Ants In My Pants ( and I'm Ready To Dance )
