Damien Marley ain't no Nimrod

This week, I'm continuing a reggae theme here at the station. It's funny how sometimes these things just come together. This week on Sound Travels, Marcus is exploring Reggae Riddims and this Saturday night on the Saturday Session, DJ Web Spinna is rocking a mix of dub and dancehall. So I thought I too would join the reggae bandwagon and explore some reggae samples. In Tuesday's post, I showed how Lily Allen used a great John Holt track, and today I've got a reggae artist sampling a Ska band!In 2005 Damien Marley released his award winning reggae masterpiece "Welcome To Jamrock" The album featured a number of guests, including Black Thought of the Roots, Nas, and brother Stephen Marley. They came together on this track...That funky break at the beginning of this song comes to us from Jamaican Ska godfathers THE SKATALITES. This super group formed in the early 60s, when these guys began recording together in some of the islands first recording studios. They released a number of Ska and Reggae classics, including the track NIMROD.
