Sound Travels has been moving to the pop beat all week long as a part of an International pop week here on 88Nine. J-Pop and K-Pop, from Japan and Korea respectively, was the feature on Monday and the pop vibe has continued throughout the week with an afropop minimix on Wednesday and a tasty slice of Latin pop mixed up on Thursday.
If you missed the Wednesday and Thursday Sound Travels, then you're in luck because I have them here. Friday's set however, is at the top of my tale here in this blog. I had to put the spotlight on a master of French pop, Serge Gainsbourg; if only because his body of work is getting easier to miss in the test of the times, and I think it's vintage material worth getting to know. Hard not to like this iconic French crooner who embodied cool and emanated hipness. Often, under smoke-filled spotlights of Paris' cabarets and clubs, this cat would play his sly mix of jazz-poet pop, cigarette smoking as he sang songs straight to the heart of a generation. Well worth a moment, I had a few cuts in my set today...
