The electronic genre of dubstep has seen a huge increase of popularity in 2010. In 2010, the genre also saw the creation of the first ever dubstep supergroup called Magnetic Man. Magnetic Man consists of producers Benga, Skream and Artwork. Who in their own right, made a mark on the sound of dubstep. Magnetic Man's debut album was released in the UK on the major label Columbia Records back in October.
Now, that album will see a proper stateside release later in 2011 on StarTime International (home to Peter Bjorn and John). Few months back, I featured songs from the album on Rhythm Lab Radio. One of those songs was called "Getting Nowhere" and it featured soul singer John Legend, which will be the first single on their U.S. debut.
This is not the first time that John Legend has been featured on an electronic based released. A couple of years ago he did a track with Canadian duo MSTRKRFT for the song "Heartbreaker", which can be heard on 88Nine RadioMilwaukee.
Could this release help break dubstep into the mainstream? Only time will tell. In the meantime watch the video for "Getting Nowhere" featuring John Legend from Magnetic Man. You can catch Magnetic Man live in the states at this year's Coachella.
