"Make Milwaukee": The Second Best Bed

Listen: A few weeks back, we had a chance to check out a preview of the UW-Milwaukee's Dance Department's Winter Dances: Égalité ( you can hear that piece on Water Studies here). For this piece, we get a sneak peak from a different part of UWM's Peck School, as we check out UWM Labworks and their production of The Second Best Bed: Shakespeare's Women Revealed

I've never heard Shakespeare done like this before -- recognizing females tend to outnumber males in collegiate theater departments, the UWM Theater Department sat down and poured through Shakespeare's body of work, looking for female roles in plays not commonly seen on stage. Then, they spun their findings together, constructing a work for their students to debut.

Check out Jim Tasse, UWM Theatre faculty member and the play's director, and Auburn Matson, lead actress in The Second Best Bed, as they share a bit of the show with us:

You can checkout the UWM Labworks production of The Second Best Bed on the weekend of February 26-28 or March 4-6 (Sunday matinees). Check out the Peck School of the Arts calendar for show times.
