MPS & Discovery World Present: Learning Journeys/Safe Streets Healthy Kids, Week 2

Milwaukee Public Schools are teaming up with Discovery World as part of a new, hands-on learning initiative for tens of thousands of students. It’s called “ Learning Journeys” and the initiative is a new curriculum-based, grade specific, hands-on field trip program that every MPS student in grades K4 through 8 will experience.

I ventured off to Discovery World a few weeks ago to see what happened on a ‘learning journey’. It was a lot of fun to see the 4th graders from Park View Elementary get to take part in such a unique and active session. The students toured different Discovery World stations to learn about the Great Lakes eco-systems and other freshwater issues. Stations included the Great Lakes Future exhibit, the City of Freshwater, the MillerCoors THIRST Lab and the Reiman Aquarium.

Future Learning Journeys are being planned for museums, cultural centers and scientific venues. The Greater Milwaukee Foundation provided funding for the Discovery Learning Journeys.
