Back in March at SXSW in Austin, I had opportunity to see the film debut of the documentary "Big Easy Express" featuring Mumford & Sons, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, and Old Crow Medicine Show. The film tells the story of the three bands taking a train trip from Oaklan to New Orleans with stops and six cities. The film documents the entire trip along with performances at each of the cities. The documentary was directed by Emmett Malloy (THE WHITE STRIPES UNDER GREAT WHITE NORTHERN LIGHTS).
The documentary was beautifully shot with equally beautiful peformance from all 3 bands. At the end of the premiere in Austin (one of the stops in the film), Members from each of the bands came out for impromptu concert.
88Nine RadioMilwaukee is proud to announce that Milwaukee now has an opportunity to experience the film on the big screen at Turner Hall sans impromptu concert for FREE! On Thursday, July 19, we will be showing this amazing documentary. Doors are at 7:30pm. Movie begins at 9pm.
There is more! We will be giving away a pair of tickets to see Mumford & Sons perform in Louisville, Kentucky (hotel accomodation, and travel not included) on August 13. We will also be giving away Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros swag (CDs, and a signed poster).
