Peaches is an artist who was built for live performances. Each show features wildly entertaining costumes, dancers and powerful feminist imagery that goes hand in hand with the punk rock, socially conscious, in-your-face lyrical content.
Anyone who was at Milwaukee’s Pride Fest in 2023 already knows this. The musician, author, producer and overall powerhouse put on a performance to remember — no surprise, considering I recently learned that a younger version of Peaches thought they would go into theater as a career.
The live shows I’ve been so lucky to see quite often feel like powerful performance art. And I have no doubt that the “No Lube, So Rude” tour — named after Peaches’ latest record — will be a huge, joyous explosion of protest.
One of those bombastic performances will take place Sept. 13 at the Rave, and I was super excited to get a few moments to chat with Peaches recently to learn more about what we can expect at the Milwaukee show. “The theme is ‘prolapse,’” she explained. “The way the world is going, the way we are going, I’m just trying to make things smoother for people.”
Peaches will activate the space with orgs that will help her cause, including the nonprofit voter-registration group Headcount and abortion-rights groups so we can learn more about women’s reproductive health.
