First concert:
My first concert had to be in the late ’70s at The Pabst Theater. I was a HUGE Laverne and Shirley fan, so when Lenny & The Squigtones came to town, my mom surprised me and my sister with tickets. I remember sitting up in the third balcony, close to the top. But even from way up there, the show was so good it was etched in my brain forever.
Favorite band of all time:
Uh….Duran Duran, of course! It helps that I was a pre-teen during the launch of MTV and they were adorable, fashionable Brits. I even used them to tick something off my “Live Concert Bucket List.” I saw them perform at Red Rocks in Colorado with Chic. What a great night, and yes…they’ve still got it.
Favorite place to take a visitor in Milwaukee:
Brewery tours! Even if our guests don’t drink beer, we have top-notch tours that are not only informational, but hilarious and super entertaining. After all these years, Milwaukee still exports fantastic beverages. But, it’s really the people making these fine libations that make Milwaukee unique.
How/why you got into radio:
I’m one of the lucky ones. My love of community powered radio began in the ’80s with my discovery of 91.7FM WMSE. My friend Scott was a student at MSOE in the early ’90s, had an overnight DJ slot and needed help while he was studying for exams. I came down to help out and basically never left. Before 88Nine, I rocked Thursday afternoons on WMSE for close to two decades. Without the passionate staff, volunteers and listeners of that station, I wouldn’t be lucky enough to make a living here at Radio Milwaukee. I have my dream job, and there isn’t a day that goes by that I’m not thankful to be here and appreciate the station that gave me my start.
Comfort drink:
Kettle One Gimlets. Spring, summer, winter … fall. They’re good anytime.
