L.A. pop duo Haute & Freddy have been keeping the singles fresher than fresh in recent months, and most could be lazily defined in one word as a “bop.” However, they are not a one-dimensional, one-trick (circus) pony. “Sophie” is here to remind us of that.
The recently released track is perhaps the most dreamy thing they’ve released to date, channeling the latest incarnation of Chappell Roan and the most romantic sides of Kate Bush.
If “Sophie” sounds more longing and more furtive, it’s intentional.
Haute & Freddy share that “it’s a ghost story dressed as a love song. It’s about that person who lingers in the corners of your mind long after they’ve vanished from your life. You’re back in your hometown, sitting at the bar, and suddenly haunted by the idea they might walk through the door.”
Catch “Sophie” on the latest episode of What’s All This, which you can hear in full using the player at the top of the page, and keep your ears open for the track in regular rotation on 88Nine. Then make sure to tune in at 2 p.m. every Sunday for more Adventures in New Music on What’s All This.
