Lissy's Place - A Haven for Homeless Women

Homelessness doesn't end with the calendar year.  Every day in Milwaukee, men, women, and children are spending nights on the streets.  For them, room temperature can be below freezing.  And, tragically, some of them won't survive.

That's why this winter, 88nine is bringing you stories about the local organizations helping Milwaukee's homeless.

Lissy's Place is a long-term refuge for homeless women under the age of 30.

But it is more than a shelter.  During their stay, which  can last up to two years, women at Lissy's must work on personal goals like finding work or graduating high school.

And for the women who go through the structured program, the disciplined lifestyle, they say, pays off.

Click the podcast player below to hear from Carolyn Singleton Martin, project manager at Lissy's Place.  She describes how the non-profit is changing lives.
