Bloomberg Mayor's Challenge: What's Next?

When news broke in March that Milwaukee didn't win the Bloomberg Challenge, the first reaction was disbelief.  Then it was disappointment.

It was looking good for the plan just a few month ago.  Milwaukee's idea was selected as a top 20 finalist from more than 300 entries in November of 2012, and was competing for up to a $5 million top prize.

The City of Milwaukee and community partners Alice's Garden and Walnut Way had worked for months on Home Gr/Own, a plan to build a sustainable food chain and create jobs in the city by converting foreclosed properties into urban gardens.

So was all the work for nothing?  How will the initiative continue without the funding? Click the podcast player to hear from Milwaukee's Environmental Sustainability Director Matt Howard.

And check back this week for more.  We will post interviews with community partners, discussing the continuing mission.
