Live Outdoor Music: Wednesdays at the Shell

88nine is taking you on a tour of Milwaukee's free, live outdoor concerts this summer.

This week, we visit "Wednesdays at the Shell" in Washington Park, near 40th and Vliet streets.

Every week concertgoers camp out in front of the Emil Blatz Band Shell with picnic baskets, beverages and chairs for an evening of music.

Jeff Baudry of the Milwaukee County Parks System said neighbors like Washington Park Partners make this free, eight-week series possible.

"It's just a group of people with a common purpose of getting out, enjoying nature and having fun in a park," Baudry said.

The July 10 kick-off marked 75 years of music at the band shell. The space has been a meeting place for community since it was erected in 1938.

"It's really a great expansion of being part of a community, and that's really what this park is all about," Baudry said.

The opening act starts at 6:00 p.m., followed by the headliner at 6:30 p.m. find the  full line-up here.
