Why not call this post La Santa Cecilia? After all, it was the first batter in the Sound Travels part of our day together. La Santa Cecilia is also apparently the name of the patron saint of music itself. LA-based La Santa Cecilia became a local club favorite in the mid-2000s with its exuberant, dance-friendly melange of rock, funk, cumbia, punk, samba and klezmer, woven together by La Marisoul's sunny, ingenuous vocals. They've also been here (on Sound Travels) before, but their latest album shows a maturity that might mark a point of ascension.
Treinta Dias, the band's newest release, shows the band getting a lil political (albeit in some Tropicalian ways, ie. barbed wire and roses) and also features some top name collaborations. They've gotten a bit of help from Elvis Costello and will also help on his next release. Either way, the band is showing that their off-the-hook live shows can in fact, be captured on record. Especially this one...
