Local history buffs have begun writing the city's first encyclopedia.
It's a partnership between the history departments of UW-Milwaukee and Marquette University, and it will include entries written by the academic community, industry professionals, and graduate students. Local historian John Gurda will also contribute to the project.
The Encyclopedia of Milwaukee is true to its name -- it will feature more than 700 entries from multiple writers' perspectives, said lead editor Dr. Amanda Seligman.
The complete version will be published in 2017, and it will be available both in print and online. When published, it will be searchable by topic.
Seligman says the project will launch a teaser website this fall, but for now, you can track the progress on the its official Facebook page.
Funding for the project came from a $250,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities and a $50,000 grant from the Greater Milwaukee Foundation.
