Back in March at SXSW in Austin, I saw a very moving documentary called Muscle Shoals. The film tells the story of a small Alabama town located near the Tennesse River, and it huge impact on popular music. The film not only revolves around the town but the man behind the sound, Rick Hall. The film is a story of racial harmony in a place and time considered the hot bed of the civil right movement. It is a story of music by some of the world's best artists like The Rolling Stones, Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Gregg Allman and others.
I sat down with the first-time director, Greg ‘Freddy’ Camalier to talk about the film in detail. You can listen to interview and check out the trailer below. Muscle Shoals is screening during the Milwaukee Film Festival. The first screening is this evening at 7:00pm at the Downer Theater. The second screening will be on Thursday, October 3 at Fox Bay Cinema.
