Argentine elctro-folk singer Juana Molina is back with a new album, Wed 21-- another hauntinly sweet affair that re-affirms her ill-omened decision to drop a successful career in TV for one in music. Singing in Spanish, Molina has nonetheless earned an international audience with superb albums like Una Dia and Son and her faithful fans are rewarded with another solid effort on her latest.
Though sung entirely in Spanish, her phrasing and tone imply meaning effectively; making for an entirely accessable sound despite linguistic barriers. Once again, the songs on Wed 21 lean on folk music tropes while spinning them a-kilter with 21st century tech; simple songs respun on a weave of layered loops that's as deft as it's dope.
