If you've ever been on a long layover inside an airport, you've probably passed the time reading a book or tinkering on your smartphone.
But at Milwaukee's General Mitchell International Airport, you have a few more options. And you don't need a boarding pass to have a look.
At the Mitchell Gallery of Flight, visitors can learn about the history of aviation and see how Milwaukee made an impact. Exhibits profiling Wisconsin natives Billy Mitchell -- the airport's namesake -- and astronaut James Lovell are at the center of the 1,400 square foot space. Model airplanes hang from the ceiling, exhibits explain early aircrafts, and glass cases display personal items from famous pilots.
Founded in 1989, the not-for-profit museum is open to the public.
