Angelique Kidjo's new album Eva

Grammy-winning Beninoisienne singer Angelique Kidjo is back in 2014 with a brand new album called Eva, out now and has been getting some spin on Sound Travels. For good reason, Eva finds the Grammy-winner in prime form working with some surprising names on an album that I feel, might just win her another round of awards.

Since "Mama Africa," Miriam Makeba's passing, you could argue that Miss Kidjo has sort of inherited that mantle and her blend of afropop, funk and rock gives her a sonic palette to reach many kinds of ears. It's her committment to worthy causes that truly sets her apart, makes her message truly international. On Eva, Kidjo is joined not only by notable artis like Nigeria's Asa, but New Orleans legend Dr. John as well as Vampire Weekend's Rostam Botmanglij on a line -up of artists bolstered by several all-female groups from Kenya and Benin. As it turns out Eva is a tribute to Kidjo's mother Eva and on the whole, a dedication to African Women. Mama Africa indeed...
