I awoke today and recieved a vision in song form and thought it was good. Radio good. So I brought it and played the band Rivière Noire on the radio for what is probly the first time. Premature grandiosity aside, Rivière Noire is a band that shows quite a bit of promise. From what I can surmise from their all-French website, they draw influence from the sounds and styles of Brazil, Mali and Paris to create their music. Their sound is "world" music in that older use of the term, a term I generally hate to use but the shoe fits in this case. The self titled debut came out last September in Europe however no release date has been set for an American release. Let's hope it happens soon!
