Minority professionals make connections at Social X Milwaukee

There's a new networking group bringing minority professionals together, introducing like-minded people and exploring the city they call home. "Social X is a group that plans out-of-the-box activities for young, diverse professionals," says Crystal Morgan, co-founder of Social X Milwaukee. "Our focus is on minority professionals and keeping them here."

What started as 7 friends meeting up at weekly happy hours has grown into a network of 500+ people. But they all have a common goal: keeping diverse talent here in Milwaukee. Denise Thomas relocated from Indiana about 6 years ago and shares "Social X has created a unique outlet in terms of engaging generation x, y and millennia’s in Milwaukee."

Lydia Smith, Revenue Manager at GE, is also a director for Social X. "Moving to a city and having to make new friends and meet people is a hard thing to do." She says Social X not only brings people together to form friendships, but important business connections are made. "People have partnered and different things have blossomed as a result of our events."

Joshua Wheeler is a Milwaukee native, and says Social X is great for minorities in the city. "When you see the typical story that you hear about us in the news, Social X shows that 's not necessarily who we all are." He says the group has done a lot to bring like-minded, minority professionals together.

Sonia Summers, Marketing Communications at Rockwell Automation, says she saw a lot of opportunities for young, diverse professionals when she was going to school in Washington D.C. and Chicago. Summers is from Milwaukee, and says she hopes that members of Social X feel like Milwaukee is their home too.
